I HAVE BEEN THERE - reflections of a ghost

One hot night this June I woke up at 4 am and felt inspired to sleepwalk in my nightgown to the lake, immerse in water and do self-portraits. It has been a long time since I have done this - for around two years I did not want to be in front of the camera.

This sudden stroke of inspiration was an impulse for a small project about the wicked sense of belonging and lingering on a place that you kind of have left but can never let go of. .. This feeling is especially strong when I am in my home village. But I also sometimes experience it's a variation on daily basis. It is something about going through life and not being there at the same time. Now I have finished printing these works in the darkroom for the exhibition at the Survival kit festival in Riga this September. My show will be at the memorial museum of Latvian painter Janis Rozentals. His paintings and photographs have inspired the aesthetics of this project and my experiments with pictorialism.

Although I feel that this exhibition is just the beginning of something and I would like to continue exploring these states existence and go on with the ghostly reflections.
